Digital distribution platform steam introduction

The Steam platform is considered to be the largest digital distribution platform for PC gaming, and was estimated by Screen Digest to have 75% of the market space in October 2013.

In 2015, users purchasing titles through Steam or through Steam keys from third-party vendors totaled roughly $3.5 billion, representing 15% of the global PC game sales for the year, based on estimations made by the tracking website Steam Spy.

By the end of 2015, the service had over 125 million registered accounts, with 12.5 million concurrent users. The success of the Steam platform has led to the development of a line of Steam Machine micro-consoles, as well as the SteamOS operating system.

Launched on the Steam store at the end of 2016, war of empires Tiger Knight is a strategic online war game. With its classical historic theme, realistic art style and rich gameplay, it has won the love of many gamers and become a big seller on Steam.

Steam is a digital distribution platform developed by Valve Corporation, which offers digital rights management (DRM), multiplayer gaming, video streaming and social networking services.

Personal computers have had a profound impact on wargaming

As in all aspects of modern life, personal computers have had a profound impact on wargaming. Computers allow gamers separated by many miles to play a game. They also handle many of the tedious aspects of wargaming, such as highly technical rules and record keeping. Finally, with the development of artificial intelligence, computers can actually serve as opponents, and thus provide opportunities for solitaire gaming.

In the video game industry, "wargames" are considered a subgenre of strategy game that emphasizes strategic or tactical warfare on a map. These wargames generally take one of four archetypal forms, depending on whether the game is turn-based or real-time and whether the game's focus is upon military strategy or tactics.

On the right is a small vertical panel witch icons and a small map. The remaining three quarters of the screen is a digital depiction of grass plain, with black and grey areas to represent unexplored regions. Three metallic looking buildings are placed on the plain, surrounded by military vehicles and personnel. Certain units have gauges above them, representing their state of damage.

Game Empire Tiger Knight is a game that combines authentic history with rich, rewarding gameplay. The developers express their vision through the game modes and map designs, with different gameplay styles featured in different locations. In order to ensure both fun and realism, every battlefield in the war of empires is based on a genuine counterpart, following real-life site visits and research of historical literature. These battlefields also exhibit complex terrain and elemental weather change.

The first such block wargame was Quebec

In block wargaming, the Fog of War is built into the game by using wooden blocks that stand upright. The statistics of each block faces each player, so that the opponent does not know the unit type or strength it possess.

The first such block wargame was Quebec 1759 by Columbia Games (previously named Gamma Two Games), depicting the campaign surrounding the Battle of the Plains of Abraham.

Before this, The Fog of War was difficult to recreate without the use of a computer or a "Double Blind" system where two players have separate game boards and pieces with the addition of a referee to facilitate the action between the players.

The block element did more than allow for clandestine operations for each player, but also allowed for units to take increased forms of step damage. In normal wargames, pieces or counters must be flipped over to show a weakened state with lower statistics, if not eliminated entirely. In block wargames, there is room for up to four different steps of damage as the block is rotated counterclockwise for each increment of damage taken before it is eliminated.

Official Tiger Knight does a whole lot of things right more than it does wrong. The development team is aware of the current flaws and they are taking feedback seriously while working hard to create the best game they can, which is exactly what an Early Access game should do while in their beta testing phase, and even with all the flaws I don’t really find myself raging at the game.

The Supply Site Issue - Latest Update Feedback

Our June 16th update focused on several adjustments to the battlefield and the amounts of damage being dealt. This is a big change to the empire war gameplay experience, and we understand that while many players enjoy the change, there are some who find it hard to get used to. Our goal is to provide an experience that is exciting and fun, and we’d like to address some points that the community have raised.

In the last update we added the following: “Taking the medical site and supply site will give a buff to teammates.” As the supply site is intended to supply the entire team, supplying the horse has become a problem here. Right now we are working on a high priority solution to this issue, and we expect to have it in place by the next update.

The latest version has also added a team flag on the battlefield - “A ‘Team Flag’ will be available to help players understand the movement and status of the team” - so that the players can easily see the signs from a distance. However, as the signs get smaller when the player moves closer, this can result in the units appearing mixed together and cause some confusion in the heat of battle. We believe the team flag makes the battlefield more realistic, and we will fix the blurred signs as soon as possible.

Mode Adjustments

The game empire soldiers on the battlefield will now behave more like a single unit. The collision size of soldiers has been adjusted so that it’s easier for them to switch formations, and avoid becoming stuck in the enemies and clustering together. The ‘concept of army’ is strengthened and the different acceleration speed of soldiers is unified so that they can keep up with the speed of the general, and move as a whole more easily during combat. A ‘Team Flag’ will be available to help players understand the movement and status of the team.

The enemy marshal’s health points will also be increased after a teammate occupies a stronghold, and it will not reduce when the enemy takes back the stronghold. The medical site and supply site are refreshed to appear anywhere on the map randomly, but the strongholds at the central area of the map will always be recruitment sites.

The damage melee soldiers can do to the general is improved from 20% to 50%.The damage caused by ranged weapons used by the general and soldiers will be affected by the height difference between the attacker and his enemy. The duration time of morale outburst skill is decreased from 85 seconds to 40 seconds, its cooldown time is lowered from 120 seconds to 60 seconds, and its damage is improved to 20%. In addition, the recovery speed of stamina during this skill will be improved.

Replenishment skill of soldiers: recovers 1% of health points every second. The shooting speed of Righteous White Horses is lowered by 10% and its accuracy is improved by 10%.

The attack speed of Fearless Vanguards in melee combat is decreased by 10% and its accuracy is increased by 10%.The ranged shooting speed of Central Ranger and Qingzhou Horse Archers is reduced by 15%.

The Golden Age of Wargaming

Coupled with an aggressive advertising campaign, this caused a tremendous rise in the popularity of wargaming in the early 1970s, with a large number of new companies starting up. Two of these would last for some years: Game Designers' Workshop, and Tactical Studies Rules.

TSR's medieval era miniatures game, Chainmail included a fantasy supplement that led to a new phenomenon that would become much bigger than its parent hobby, role-playing games.

The 1970s can be considered the 'Golden Age of Wargaming', with a large number of new companies publishing an even larger number of games throughout the decade, powered by an explosive rise in the number of people playing wargames. Avalon Hill's PanzerBlitz (1970), Panzer Leader (1974), and Squad Leader (1977) were particularly popular during this time, with their innovative geomorphic mapboard system.

Empire war online began to diversify in subject matter, with the first science-fiction wargame appearing in 1973 and one of the longest lasting and most successful, Star Fleet Battles, published by Task Force Games, appearing in 1979.

A mass market emerges of war game

The first modern mass-market wargame, based on cardboard counters and maps, was designed and published by Charles S. Roberts in 1952. After nearly breaking even on Tactics, he decided to found the Avalon Hill Game Company as a publisher of intelligent games for adults, and is called "The father of board empire online game". The modern commercial board wargaming industry is considered to have begun with the publication of Tactics II in 1958, and the founding of The General Magazine by Avalon Hill in 1964.

In 1959, Diplomacy was released commercially after being developed by Allan B. Calhamer in 1954.[Unlike war games to date, it focused primary attention on the dynamics of alliances and betrayals, and avoided the use of dice or other sources of random effects. It was played by John F. Kennedy and Henry Kissinger and the latter has said it was his favorite game.

In 1961, Avalon Hill published Roberts' Gettysburg, which is considered to be the first board wargame based entirely on a historical battle. D-Day and Chancellorsville, the first commercial games to use a hexagonal mapboard, were also published that year.

Wargames have origins in ancient chess

Wargame originated as Chaturanga, created in ancient India as a simulation of Indian warfare, with pieces representing infantry, cavalry, chariots and war elephants. In Europe, from the late 18th century to the 19th century, chess variants evolved into modern empire wargames.

Drawing inspiration from Chess, Hellwig, Master of Pages to the Duke of Brunswick, created a battle emulation game in 1780.

According to Max Boot's book War Made New, sometime between 1803 and 1809, the Prussian General Staff developed war games, with staff officers moving metal pieces around on a game table, using dice rolls to indicate random chance and with a referee scoring the results. Increasingly realistic variations became part of military training in the 19th century in many nations, and were called Kriegsspiel or "wargame".

Wargames History

Some are fundamentally simple—often called "beer-and-pretzel" games—whereas others attempt to simulate a high level of historical realism. These latter games typically require extensive rulebooks that encompass a large variety of actions and details. These games often require a considerable study of the rules before they can be played. Wargames also feature a range of scales, from games that simulate individual soldiers, to ones that chart the course of an entire global or even galactic war.

Wargames are generally a representational art form. Usually, this is of a fairly concrete historical subject (such as the Battle of Gettysburg, one of several popular topics in the genre), but it can also be extended to non-historical ones as well.

The Cold War provided fuel for many games that attempted to show what a non-nuclear World War III would be like, moving from a re-creation to a predictive model in the process. Fantasy and science fiction subjects are sometimes not considered wargames because there is nothing in the real world to model, however, conflict in a self-consistent fictional world lends itself to exactly the same types of games and game designs as does military history.

Because of these attitudes, there are many games and types of games that may appear to be a wargame at first glance, but are not accepted as such by members of the hobby, and many that would be considered debatable. Risk could be considered a wargame; it uses an area map of the Earth and is unabashedly about sending out armies to conquer the world.

Wargames Development History

Wargames are generally categorized as historical, hypothetical, fantasy, or science fiction. Historical games form by far the largest group. These games are based upon real events and attempt to represent a reasonable approximation of the actual forces, terrain, and other material factors faced by the actual participants.

Hypothetical games are games grounded in historical fact but concern battles or conflicts that did not (or have yet to) actually happen. Fantasy and science fiction wargames either draw their inspiration from works of fiction or provide their own imaginary setting. Highly stylized conflict games such as chess are not generally considered wargames, although they are recognized as being related.[citation needed] Games involving conflict in other arenas than the battlefield, such as business, sports or natural environment are similarly usually excluded.

The modern wargaming hobby has its origins at the beginning of the 19th century, with von Reiswitz's Kriegsspiel rules. Later, H.G. Wells' book Little Wars ushered in the age of miniatures games in which two or more players simulated a battle as a pastime. During the 1950s the first large-scale, mass-produced board games depicting military conflicts were published. These games were at the height of their popularity during the 1970s, and became quite complex and technical in that time.

Wargaming like Tiger Knight Game has changed dramatically over the years, from its roots in miniatures and board wargaming, to contemporary computer and computer assisted wargames; however, both miniature and board wargames maintain a healthy, if small, hobby market with lighter games being popular with many 'non-wargamers'.

Warfare Game Development History

The computer gaming industry like Tiger Knight generally evolved with minimal reference to board games, so the term "wargame" is not traditionally used in the context of computer games. However, the wargaming community saw the possibilities of computer gaming early and made attempts to break into the market, notably Avalon Hill's Microcomputer Games line, which began in 1980 and covered a variety of topics, including adaptations of some of their wargames.

In February 1980 Strategic Simulations, Inc.  was the first to sell a serious, professionally packaged computer wargame, Computer Bismarck. It and Strategic Studies Group were computer game companies that continued the genre by specializing in games that borrowed from board and miniature wargames. The companies enjoyed a certain popularity throughout much of the 1980s and into the 1990s. TalonSoft started in 1995 with a similar focus, until purchased and later closed down by Take-Two Interactive in 2002.

The popular direction of the current market is towards real-time strategy games exemplified by StarCraft and others. These games are strategic in the gaming sense, but tactical in the military sense. These are generally high-action games that include a number of conveniences that enhance gameplay, but ignore reality.

Tiger Knight newbie guide

Before stepping into Tiger Knight GAME, you should complete all the training first. Guide to get SS training:

Pike troop - Go for Wei pike - extremely tough, most well-protected armor. Good against Cavalry with spike wall. You should stand in the middle of your troops. Use " ~ " command to keep them close to you.

Mounted Archer - go for Shu, Imo, Shu is good for new players. They cause reliable damage, not as hard as Wei mounted archer to play. Besides, you can get "Leather Mask" for your Horse (Leather is much better than Cloth for horse - read "Armor guide" for more detail). Mounted archer's job is mostly distract enemy attention or help friendly unit in combat and capture vital location.

Heavy Cavalry (Shock Cavalry) - Wei, strong crash damage (30-50 damage per crash). However, they are not suited for long fight combat, if your unit falls into Pike wall, better pray for them.

Developers’ note 5.27 - Update Feedback and Female Characters

Following the May 23rd update, several players reported that they were unable to play the Tiger Knight Empire War smoothly, or were running into unusual issues. We sincerely apologize to anyone affected. We are also very grateful for the active feedback you gave us, including detailed descriptions and log files. Compensation packs have be handed out to all players, please keep an eye out for our compensation announcement.

In the meantime, we’d like to address some of the aforementioned issues in more detail. There’s also a teaser for the upcoming female characters at the end, for those who read all the way to the bottom.

Q: After quitting a battle the soldiers and adjutant remain stuck on the battlefield, and the client crashes when loading into a battlefield.
A: The soldiers-stuck-in-battle problem happened to a few Asia server players after the update, and a number of EU server players faced the client crash problem when logging into the game. Again, we regret that any player should encounter these bugs, but thanks to the detailed descriptions and log files you provided we have identified a solution and the problem will be resolved imminently. If you still have this issue, please refer below:
http://steamcommunity.com/games/TK/announcements/detail/1259166111176162513

Q: I can’t log into the game, it’s stuck on the loading screen.
A: Check if there’s a program starting with “kingdom” in the task manager. If there is, please wait a little longer, as the loading time differs from computer to computer.
But if there is no such program in the task manager, that may be caused by missing game files. Please check (steam/steamapps/common/TigerKnight_EW/TigerKnightEnv) and run the test tool.

Preview of the territory-control battle in Tiger Knight - the cold weapon game

Empire war games has always aimed to recreate the global warfare of ancient times. These battles should be a strategic game between different factions and a contest of tactics on a single battlefield. The developer’s goal is to incorporate a more fully formed version of Empire Control to the game itself.

Engaging all players in this new game mode has been the basic principle when designing Empire Control. The developers hope to entice not only the powerful legions, but also random players to join in this brand new gameplay mode. Therefore, they designed the ancient world territory map so that all players can move on it, and have an effect on the trend of the global battlefield.

The map of Three Kingdoms Period of China will be added to this mode first, war of empires providing 8 forces for players to choose from: Cao Cao, Liu Bei, Sun Ce, Yuan Shao, Gongsun Zan, Ma Teng, Liu Biao and Liu Zhang. After completing the rest of the units, they will include other famous forces such as the Roman Empire from the continents of Europe, Asia and Africa. Players from legions can build around the city they captured and expand their forces from there. Random players can choose to rely on the main city of their chosen force.
